Default Re: Race #5 & #6 Rockingham Dragway

Rockingham Dragway was one for the record books this past weekend!!! It was CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association's first time visiting there but we hope it isn't the last. The track management/crew did a phenomenal job with track prep/conditions from Friday night's test & tune until completion on Sunday evening. Thank you guys for all of your hard work!!!

Saturday results:

We started off Saturday with our one qualifying run, then followed up with the Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Emily Volkman in her bright orange 1969 Camaro collected the first $100.00 of the day. She was dialed a 6.14, had a .0008 RT, & ran dead on her dial 6.1416 @ 109.89 mph. Following 1st round of eliminations, we broke our 2nd record of 2023, with having 51 cars in competition. THANK YOU racers for this!!! Jamey Caudill didn't get a "W" in his lane during 1st round but he still didn't leave empty handed. He received the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package award & $50.00. Jamey was dialed a 6.84, had a .0006 RT, & ran 6.8712 at 96.80 mph. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to KDS Motorsports winner from June, Mr. Joseph Strickland. Joseph came out on the losing side of an awesome run that would win most rounds. He had a .0192 RT, ran 7.4581 @ 89.70 mph on his 7.45 dial. He received a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel. In the Semi's, we had Kevin Locklear & Tim Sloan but Tim was unable to make the run due it a parts failure in round #4. Our finals brought 2 racers that are no strangers to the winner's circle & we knew it would be a good one. It was previous CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association Points Champion Steve Lucas & one of our dedicated sponsors, Eddie Longhany Jr. Steve was pulling double duty as he was also in competition in the Footbrake division where he also found himself in the finals there as well. This race was over at the starting line as Eddie Jr. turned on the dreaded red bulb. Steve took the tree with a .0242 RT & ran 7.6238 @ 66.08 mph on his 6.90 dial. Eddie Jr. was -.0171 & ran a 6.7102 @ 88.03 mph on his 6.60 dial. We waited for Steve to run his finals in Footbrake where he also collected the win in that class. I can't remember how many runs he put on his car total on Saturday but if you paid any attention to the Rockingham Dragway app, you could tell he was putting on a driving clinic. I'm sure that is one day in his racing career that he will never forget!!! Steve also collected a $300.00 gift certificate from QA1 & a $100.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Eddie Jr. received a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, & a $50.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Like this name hasn't been mentioned enough already, Steve was the winner of the Auto Plus Service Center sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award for his .0003 RT in round 5 of eliminations. Dennis Pope was awarded the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award for either a transmission or torque converter failure during round 1 where he lost to Avery McLawhorn. Our previous race winner was able to attend on Saturday due to his sister-in-law's wedding so our bounty was then put on Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway Sunday Runner-Up, Billy Ryan. Homer Carty received the $100.00 Bounty Hunter award sponsored by Wayside Landscapes & Supply for taking out Billy during round #2. Anyone who knows Dell Britt knows he would give anyone the shirt off his back in a time of need & if you remember correctly, he needed help from fellow racers on Saturday evening of our Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway event. Dell was on the other side this time where he was the one loaning out parts to 3 fellow racers so he was selected as the Butner Construction Sportsmanship award. Kevin Locklear collected the Zamp Racing Best Winning Package of the race for his round 1 win. He was dialed a 6.70, had a .0058 RT, & ran a 6.7020 @ 98.12 mph. As mentioned above, Tim Sloan had parts failure in round 4 of competition. He took the tree on this run with a rather late reaction time & it was obviously the worst one of the race. He was awarded the Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT". Our Saturday action was completed shortly after midnight which made for a long day of racing action & only a few short hours of shut-eye before starting back on Sunday morning around 10 a.m.
