KELSON & KELSON STOCK/SUPERSTOCK SERIES - RACE 1 REPORT

Greg's Legacy Race Co-Sponsors: Strictly Hydraulics & Dairy Queen

The first race of the ACSSA 2024 season had to wait an extra day thanks to Mother Nature, but Sunday was sunny and fast and made it well worth the delay. The Greg's Legacy Race Weekend double header is co-sponsored by Strictly Hydraulics and Dairy Queen, and we will look at fitting the 2nd race in later in the season. We had 20 entries roll into the track, but four of them had problems that kept them from racing, so 16 cars made up the field. Of these, two cars were having issues sorting out new combos, but they were offset by two -1.30+ blasts at the top of the qualifying sheet, and as usual the ACSSA members put on a great show for the fans.

Two other stories dominated the pre-race action, though. The first was the gutsy effort put forward by Daniel Nickerson and his team, when they discovered a bad transmission just before Q1 and thrashed hard to get it together and qualify in Q2 less than 2 hours later! Great work guys! The other significant event was a very scary one. Kelly MacKay experienced a fire inside his trailer while inside in his car. Thankfully Kelly escaped essentially unscathed, although both his car and trailer will need some TLC.

Chris Chapman showed up with a borrowed car, found it had a broken transmission, was offered the seat in his father Ed's GT/TC S10, and proceeded to lay waste to the rest of the field on his way to our first Winner's Circle of the year and the early ACSSA Points Lead. Chris had the THREE Best Reaction Times of the day, cranking out consecutive .003 RTs in rounds 2, 3 and 4. Chris also grabbed the Bounty Hunter Bonus when he defeated 2023 Season Champ Mike Ingram in the Final. Scott Underhill qualified his 1971 Pontiac T37 in the top spot at nearly -1.33.
