talking of frist gen. camaros???

ok I have one for you guys...frist let me say I know a little bit of these cars as Dad has a 67 SS 396/325 car....anyway a favorite story of dad's is his uncle that worked for the local chevy dealership would call this guy a "cheating SOB" that raced way back in the late 60's with a 67 camaro that had a 283 in it! So did they make a 67 with a 283? Uncle June said NO! But they let this guy run....BTW back then Pappal ran a 66 Impala SS 396/325 4-speed in E/S & Uncle Bob ran a 66 Chevelle conv. with a 327/250 PG in J/SA....(Bob's car may have been a 327/275 dad & pappal disagreed on that) (oh p.s. Bob's car had the fake mag hub caps on)

I can tell you for a fact Chevy DID MAKE a 283 chevelle in 1967. I rode many miles in one of my friends. It was a 2 bbl and a 3 speed on the tree. This car did exist from the factory!!! 1967 may have been the last year as I do not remember a 283 in any 1968 cars.

I have read and studied a little on the first gen Camaro's but I'm no expert. Yenko.net could provide the correct answer but don't think Chevrolet put 283's in them.

307-2bbl combo first appeared in the 69 Camaros.
Danny Durham (a former 69 Z-28 owner,,,yes it had a flat hood and rear bumper guards)

1967-68 Camaros did not come with a 283. The smallest V8 was the 327/210. It had the same size 2bl carb as the 283. The 1969 Camaro started the model year with the 327/210 but it was replaced by the 307/200.

Today in the musclecar market when you see a 67-68 Camaro advertised as a matching number 327, the engine is almost always a 327/210 that has had the carb/intake changed to a 4bl. The original owner of these 327/210 Camaros were most of the time women or older folks who were not looking for a street racer. That is why you see so many of those cars in nice shape. They usually are equipped with a PG and often have factory air.
