Does anybody know how NHRA determines the car count quotas for the different classes at their national events? Being in Div. 6, we have only 1 nat`l event in our division, the next closest to me is Sonoma, which is 1200 miles away. Anyhow, in Stock, they allotted 50 spots, which to me seems pretty small, considering we often get about that many at a LODRS race. Stock filled up fairly quickly, yet S/S has only 16 cars entered, with 50 spots available, and Comp has 13 pre entered , with 40 spots available. I`ve been going to the Seattle Nat`l event since the late 70`s, and I can`t ever recall seeing anywhere even close to 30 Comp cars show up, let alone 40! Also, I don`t believe S/S has been very close to full in recent years either. To me, it would seem reasonable that since it is highly unlikely that either S/S or Comp will "fill up" in the few remaining weeks, that they could open up some more Stock positions. Is that unreasonable? Also, why do they choose an "uneven" car count number? In my mind, it would make more sense to allow, say 64 cars in Stock, and maybe 32 cars each in S/S or Comp, which is over twice as many as are currently pre entered. That way if the fields did fill up, it would eliminate a bunch of bye runs. Also, quite often a few "touring" class racers pre enter every event possible, but skip several of them, which results in classes that are no longer full, with several racers on the outside, looking in. Although parking at Pacific has been a zoo the past few years, it would still be nice to get into our only local National race! Your thoughts?

Why are there any limits in Div. 6? Other than the .90 classes we just don't have a large population of class. Why limit the show when it's not needed? I'd even add Pro Stock bike.

It is my opinion that the racers in the local division that the natl event is contested in should have the first chance at entering the event reguardless of the amount of grading points they have. We have the same problem in div 2 we only have 2 natl events in our division. One is the gators which is a very popular event. usually you have to have 5 grade points to get in. Last year we had racers from Washington state entered and guys from florida could not get in. There is something wrong with thia system. Sportsman racers can only claim 3 nationals for points anyway. Most of us are not running for the national championship just want to racre at the events closest to home.....

it is hard to believe that car count will ever be an issue in the future with gas prices increasing.

Moving to SS from Stock is not a solution for many. Not just a decision of which class to put on the tech card. If you are a 10 lb or better stocker you likely need a cage to move to SS. For some in Stock there is no SS class. For Rory that is not the case with an M/S but he will likely need to be a 1+ under car to run the SS/M index depending on the S vs SS Hp factor. Throw in the possible summer heat and running the index would be tough for most.
As someone pointed out, with gas prices, it may not be a tough in the future to get into Nats. |

I know the Sportsman Council is working on getting ALL the classes back at each National Event..........give it time.

The low car counts for pre entries are pretty similar for the Mile Highs in Denver in two weeks. With only 11 days to the cutoff day for getting into the Denver event,Stock is only at 78%,Super Stock is only at 43%(60 car max in both),and Comp is at 47% as well(40 car max). Hell, even Pro Stock Bike isn`t even full yet! It would be nice to see all cars eligible to run each Nat`l Event again, some Divisions, like the ones in the west are so spread out,it`s just doesn`t make sense to travel that far for for a Nat`l or even a Divisional race. Let us know Jeff.
