Re: S/G-S/R questions IHRA and NHRA
IHRA did not follow the helmet rule (open face OK)
IHRA did not follow the diaper rule ( no diaper needed) 150 mph or faster needs a chute. Whats a muffler????????? |

Re: S/G-S/R questions IHRA and NHRA
Speaking of mufflers. When we built a new car for the 2007 season for SG/SR I questioned the division tech director. My question was " What about the muffler rule and are they required anymore." I was told quite directly "NHRA does not have a muffler rule." I then said well only about half the cars running in the 2006 season in SG or SC had mufflers. Most racers had removed them. I was told again "it is a noise rule and not a muffler rule." I took it from the question and the direct comments that NHRA had no intention of enforcing the "noise rule" anymore. Therefore the new car came out to the races without mufflers and no issues with tech was encountered for the entire 2007 season and none in 2008 either.
I think the muffler issue is a dead one. |

Re: S/G-S/R questions IHRA and NHRA
I have'nt had mufflers on my car for years since one of the baffels came out and cut a brand new slick!....They were off the car before I made another run. ........ The noise rule has'nt been enforced or even mentoined for several years, altho it's still in the rule book...........Any one who questions the need for the diapers, required or not, should have seen how well mine worked on Sat. at Englishtown!!. ....... I broke a rod [ a Carillo! ] at half track 2nd round. .... There was a hole big enough to stick two hands thru in the oil pan! .....Since I run a dry sump there was only about a half a pint of oil in the diaper, but ALL of the connecting rod pieces were contained, and laying in the bottom of the diaper ......Not a drop of oil under the car or on the track, Thank You Stroud Safety Equptment !!! .......Tom

Re: S/G-S/R questions IHRA and NHRA
My mufflers are on from when we were "supposed" to have them. They don't do much for noise anyway and you are right - they never checked.
Full face helmet and diaper required for 135+ in NHRA. Still wonder why a car that is 150+ yet stops at top end doesn't need a diaper. They are 150+ increments!! But it is like the "safety" rules for us .90 classes. Pants, helmet, jacket, neck collar, gloves, diapers, etc. if over 135mph, YET a HEMI car driver can wear pajama bottoms while running their car!!!
