Default Paul Young & his seriously red racecar capture 2nd place in 2008 TNT Hot Rod Series!

Multiple late round appearances were crucial

ALDEN, NEW YORK (January 4, 2009) Paul Young from Alden, New York wasn’t even thinking about racing Hot Rod when he and his dad Tom built their current drag car. But - as many of the forty-five TNT Series competitors will attest to - you won’t find a more consistent, repeatable piece. Combine that with the talent of Paul’s driving ability and it’s no surprise they finished in 2nd place in the 2008 Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series.

Paul spends his days working for the New York State Department of Transportation and his weekends chopping down the tree at the local drag strip - usually Dunn Tire Raceway Park’s Friday night program. “I started racing in 2001 with an old back-halved 1967 Fairlane and help from my dad. Then in 2004, we came across a 1966 Fairlane that was just a tube frame and body shell in Kentucky,” said Paul. After an intense amount of effort re-working the entire car, they emerged with the current beauty. Powered by a 550 cubic inch Ford, this hot rod is capable of 1/4 mile times in the 8.91 range at a stout 152 mph.

An Ironman winner a few years ago at Toronto Motorsports Park’s (TMP) IHRA national event in Top ET class, this is Paul’s first season in Hot Rod competition. And talk about a formidable competitor, Paul qualified in the top ten an impressive five times out of the seven TNT Hot Rod events he attended in 2008. Add to this - one event win at TMP on October 4th, two semi-final & one quarter-final finish and you have a pretty impressive performance - one deserving of the 2008 TNT Series Runner-Up title.

For 2009, the team is planning to compete once again in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series and to hit a few NHRA/IHRA Divisional events. “We had a great time racing Hot Rod this year because our friends race in this series,” said Tom. “And to win the event on October 4th in our first year in the class is just awesome!”

Support on the low-slung, bright red Ford comes from Old Dutchman Wrought Iron, Grand Rental Station, Clarence NAPA Auto Parts, Drogi & Sons Automotive and Guis Lumber. Engine work is done by Al Linsey, transmission work by Atec Transmission and tuning by Dale Cubic at CFM Performance Carbs. “I also want to thank Ken Joz, all of our Canadian friends, the Hallens, our sponsors and especially my dad,” added Paul.

Look for the series to return in 2009 to both Dunn Tire Raceway Park and Toronto Motorsports Park for both 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile heads-up action. The schedule will be out very soon. Monitor www.tntsuperseries.com at least once a week for updates.
