Taken at Huntsville, Alabama. Ronnie Duke ran his Vega at my home track, Brainerd Optimist Dragstrip, in the early eighties.

The car above is the Beretta he and his brother Jerry had Gary Jennings to build it was a very nice car! The other car Ronnie ran was a Vega that Mr. Kerr was referring to, both had sticks in them and Ronnie was just about as good as anyone in Super Gas. We had too many run in's at the "hill" to count and while we fought a little every now and then, I got to know Ronnie very well and he was a very good friend until his death this year.
He was defiantely one of the good guys we lost this year! Thanks for the many lessons Ronnie! Your friend, Lynn Ellison |

Sorry to hear of Ronnie's passing, I had no idea. We had some fierce super gas wars at Brainerd Optimist Dragstrip in the late seventies and eighties. Ronnie was one of the great ones.
You mentioned "the Hill". I guess you knew Johnny Labbous then. I saw him race at our track from 1972 through the eighties. I traveled to many races with him and have never seen anyone win more than he did. He was my inspiration to begin racing. I have lots of pics of his cars if anybody wants to see some. Wayne. |
