Thumbs up Ford Mustangs bring excitement to Stock

There was a lot of excitement in Stock today about the arrival of the new Ford Mustangs. I feel that this is great for the class. The Thursday crowds are usually very thin. As you can see there were many people flocking to see the new cars. There were also some very rare historic drag cars there including Gas Rhonda's car and two original R code Mustang cars owned by John Calvert and Richie Pauley.

I have to agree with you. I went to the PRI show just to see the new "Factory Stockers". I think that even the controversy is great for our class. Anybody have any real news on the Challengers?

Jeff Teuton was supposed to be buying about 6 or 8 of the
challengers for his team and customers, maybe he will
chime in with an update?

"Real news." That was a good one. Might as well ask for the same info on Camaros, too! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

The bottom line, and before this gets crazy/turns into a bashfest/etc, 'cause it shouldn't, Ford delivered, plain and simple. And, Ford's about to deliver...again...for the street market, with the 2010 Mustangs--including Shelby GT500.

The Cobra Jets are serious hot rods, fellas. I've driven one, and at 70Gs, it really is a killer bang-for-the-buck as a Stock Eliminator car, when you can go and order a CJ from a Ford dealership's parts department...or even get a good V6 S197 to start with, and add all the parts yourself.

MY OPINION here...The crying is expected. The same thing happend when Al C started making big steam with his Firebird and then the GTOs and that killer LS engine platform started killing "the number." Carb guys are just gonna have to give into the fact that new technology (including non-pushrod engines and superchargers on showroom-available cars) is here to stay, and the category is not called "Nostalgia" Stock Eliminator just to keep things carbcentric and pushrod, and within the desire paramaters and understanding capability of seriously closed minds. I wish the NHRA would open the window for Pro Stock to use EFI technology, too.

The Fords are quick, fast and compliant to the rules of NHRA Stock Eliminator. Shame on NHRA's Tech officials for being snookered on that 425hp factor. Again, I don't race in Stock, but I am a fan with an opinion and I probably know enough about--or can find out enough about--the Cobra Jets to theoretically (and seriously) "make me dangerous."

Let's let NHRA get the growing pains between the "old" and the "new" sorted out. While I'm confident some sort of medium probably will be reached..unfortunately with weight, which is totally unnecessary, when dyno time/track time and just a few keystrokes on the laptop makes most of the difference between a CJ being mild or obviously pretty wild (NHRA really needs to do better about understanding modular engines and EFI tuning--"today's cars" basically).

I think the real deal is more that the old-guard Stock racer...and fan...needs to understand that the class will only go forward if new stuff like Cobra Jets are allowed to run as they're designed to. Brands X and Y are supposed to be bringing similar offerings to the arena. I guess if you're a fan of those makes, the wait probably becomes that much more painful, when you see that Ford's Cobra Jet Mustang, whether it's factored correctly or not (and, for the record, I agree that an adjustment should be made), is a stone-cold, they-did-their-homework, killer.

The bar has been raised. I think it's a really good thing that it has!
