Default Almost "Live" from Indy

We are going to be heading to Memphis shortly, but Mike Fuller just called with a live report from Indy points race. He said it is a beautiful day there, about 70 degrees. 1st session of stock had around 70 or so cars, he guessed. A new Challenger is there in A/SA, ran about a 10.25 (-1.04). He said there was a Division 1 car there with a Challenger in AA/SA and a SS/AH car. He didn't know who they were. Mike said he was not going to have internet available this weekend, so ya'll just jump in and let everyone know what's happening!

More later from Memphis!

The Div.1 AA/SA Challenger is driven by Chris Howes from Canada; it is a 1970 Challenger, not one of the new ones. The SS/AH car is driven by Wendell Howes who is Chris' father.
The new Challenger is driven by Doug Duell; he ran 10.213 (1.087 under) which puts him at #10 after Q1.

From the qualifying it looks like the NHRA has had no affect on the Stock Eliminator entries at the Indy divisional. This is from comparing the 2008 Friday afternoon qualifying numbers.

Wonder why NHRA does what they do to us. Because we (including mysefl) are all SHEEP

It is now 77 degrees and gorgeous, although very windy. Lucky for us it is mostly a tail wind. There were 72 cars in the first qualifying round of Super Stock, including a new red CobraJet driven by Rock Haas. The air isn't actually all that great for the cars, so we aren't running as fast as we would like.

35 323 SS/DA Rock Haas, White Lake MI, '08 Mustang 9.546 10.50 -0.954

That's AA/S or AA/SA weight. Though I have no idea what, if any, SS mods have been made. Still pretty fast!

It's really nice to see all the new cars and faces popping up due to the Challenger and CJ packages. Congrats to all the new owners on the impressive performances.

I agree. Although I have been a Mopar man since 1969, I still welcome the Mustangs and see a renewed interest these cars are creating in Stock and Super Stock. I hope the challengers cause as much activity as the Mustangs.

I did a quick calculation of how much NHRA took in in entry fees, it was $13,500 (90 @ $150.00) in stock alone not counting crew members. It's totally absurd that they take in that much money and only pay $1000. to win. I can understand the racers up in that part of the country because it's the first race of the season up there and the racers are chopping at the bit to race. Good luck to all the racers, but like mannymen said, they treat us like this because they can and will.

I don't get it

$150.00 entry fee for a $1000 to win payout. Please tell me what the infatuation is having to run 7-8 rounds for $1000? Don't say fun which makes no sense. You can have the same fun at a weekly bracket race against much better competition and it will cost you a lot less money.
