Thumbs down Bye Runs in an All Star Race???

I have to question IHRA officials why they would have bye runs in the All Star races if there were no-shows??? Why wouldn't you plug in the next highest finishers that were present at the race??? Giving someone a freebie in the first round of an All Star race is just not right!

That's usually done at any race with a ladder in place.Just my opinion.

Look at the other side, giving someone an entry into an allstar race who didn't earn it could possibly be considered a "freebie" too, right? I mean it sucks if you're the #9 finisher but how should the #1 finisher feel when he's running someone who wasn't even in the program? Point is its a catch 22 situation, nothing they can do that is going to make everyone happy.

No different than inserting alternates in a qualified field, I'd say alternates should be used. It's not like if one of the top 8 in all star points is a no-show they all they first car that comes along regardless of all star points standings.

If someone doesn't show up to run the Jegs All Stars they pick the next highest finisher in that division. Mark Faul was runner up one year when he raced as an "alternate."

Remember, IHRA's race is basically the top 8 nationally in each category! I'm sure there were two other racers there who were in the top 20, let's say, who would have been capable replacements! The no shows should have notified IHRA they were not coming and they could have filled others in!!!

I don't see an alternate as being given a freebie!!

Ed, there is no ladder until you qualify!!

Homer Carty was there and he was 9 in the world....im sure he wouldn't have hesitated to run if they would have let him in......
ps.has anyone figured out how they are going to do the 09 all star race...DRM states its going to be div champs and all star winners but they are putting people in by div. points right now...haven't figured it out yet
