Kinard Snags First All Star Championship
One of the “original” Sparco drivers Aaron Kinard snagged his first ever Jegs All-Stars Championship in Joliet, ILat the Route 66 NHRA Nationals held June 4-7. The All-Stars race is one of the most significant titles in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Drag Racing Series, so when Kinard, 2nd place holder, got the call that 1st place holder Rich Camou wouldn’t be able to make the drive, Kinard jumped to the opportunity to represent Division 7 in the 25th Anniversary running of the competition.
The 2008 Division 7 Champion worked his way through the field of “All-Star” competitors where he met up with good friend and Division 4 rep, Travis Prudhomme. Prudhomme had been having troubles with his car earlier that day, and despite a full clean run, he was unable to stop Kinard. As for the Route 66 Nationals, Kinard fell down to eventual event winner Kari Larson.
In his short racing career, Kinard has racked up an impressive resume of a Division 7 Championship, 2 Divisional wins, 1 Jegs SportsNationals win that all assisted in his No. 7 finish in the National Point Standings last year.
Kinard will be invited back to the 26th running of the Jegs All-Stars race as the Super Comp “Blocker” where he will strive to follow in the footsteps of the last two Super Comp All Stars Champions Langdon and Erks who each won as blockers to make back to back wins for themselves.
