I have been breaking out by an average of .005-.006 this summer so many times now that I cringe every time I pull up to the slip shack. The dial in is an educated guess using past runs of course and handheld weather station.
I have been getting off the gas but its now time to get some advice on this. Its an auto 89-90 mph in the 1/8 110 in the 1/4, two step button on the brake petal. At a lot of the tracks I race at tire smoke is a black flag. Suggestions? Thanks Eric

Dial down one number. Sorry you left the door wide open. I've found that simply lifting on the accelerator loses basically nothing, as your momentum is already at max near the finish line. I've been of course not very sucessfully "rubbing" the brake with my left foot trying to close it up at the stripe.I watched the Moser Shootout at Martin Michigan and was amazed at the amount of excessive braking during the race, some cars had smoke some got a little out of shape. I'm not a big fan of "spiking" the brake at the finish line however I know it is common pracice among some racers. That's my take on it your results may vary. Joe

Put a gallon of gas in the truck before you run.
![]() For braking, if you're doing the chasing, when you catch your opponent, stay flat in the gas, and tap-tap-tap on the brake to hold that relationship. If you're being chased, try to use your mirrors to determine who's going to get their first. If you can tell you're going to get there by a fair margin, but you're not sure by how much, you can scrub the brake lightly a little bit as described above to take up a little bit of the room early, and then make the determination later in the run on whether or not to kill some more. Unrelated -- replace the brake pedal 2-step setup with a brake pressure switch for improved R/T consistency. (see Tech forum)
