Talking Live from Hagerstown ,MD- Lee Sherman Memorial Stock S/S Combo race

Well almost live --- You know what they say about the best plans - mine was to go Live this weekend from Mason-Dixon Dragway but that didn't work out as there is no Internet phone service available at this track - none as in zip -zero -- nada.....you get it .

First of all to you naysayers who don't think I can't go to a Division One race and not get rained on -- well this was the weekend we were looking for all season -- Saturday was nice but today -- perfect isn't a good enough word -- Sunny with the temperature in the high sixties and not a cloud in the skies ! !

Yesterday was test n tune all day with a late afternoon gamblers race that was won by Danny Lattimore -a former D1 Stock standout who said this was a one race deal with Craig Couris - we'll see. RU was Matt Welker who was driving well all afternoon .Winning time in the E/SA was 10.85 for Danny and Matt's D/SA went 11.11 in losing.

Also on the grounds Saturday was Tom Blair - (see pic) - Division One Certificaion team member who was doing Chassis certs all day and what a line he had -- bet he was there very late ---- thanks Tom .

This was the first ever time I was at Mason-Dixon and it was a surprise - not at all what I expected .Guess I shouldn't listen to others as its a nice track for sure .Yes .not as nice as Englishtown or Maple Grove but a great place none the less .Traction was superb all weekend with the .60's not changing much at all .As for the pits- clean and spacey with paved roads . And they have super chili .The staff I can't say enough good things about - helpful and glad we were there for sure .Pricing - twenty bucks for all day test n tune .

Because I'm writing this from home I can't tell you much on today's results as I was a first round runner-up and left -- maybe Mike Carr ( from Tri -States Stock-S/S Assn ) or someone who attended can fill us in on the details of today .

FINALLY -- a weekend it didn't rain ..............! ! ! ! !

PS-- One last thing I've got to share - from my wife of all people - her words to me Saturday -- " this ain't Vegas baby - its gonna cost ya ". Nuff said .My wallet will cry later .

PS2 - Anyone who knew Lee Sherman felt his presence today .I know I did .

i believe it was luke morris over bunk miller in the final. I left after i was beat 3rd round...its was great to see Danny "Ladderbar" back behind the wheel..Craig has a few cars so he can leave that one for Danny to run...I did know Lee Sherman and his wife Lynn,, of course i was like 10 or 12 back when they were running. Had a great time, felt good to see people i havent seen in awhile..Wish i could have made it over saturday, but family stuff came up..See you all next year!

I was a first round runner up too. I should have come over to meet you Jack, but after first round loss, I ended up having some engine issues, so I just tucked my tail, loaded up and went to eat some steak.

I have been to Mason Dixon several times for this race and this by far was the best weather. It was a chamber of commerce day as some say, and the track was in great shape (at least I thought it was for my car)

like Lil Duane says, see you in the spring! Hopefully at the Rockingham or Farmington Pro-Am.

A "Live From" race report from one of my events is a first. Thanks Jack. It was nice to meet you. And, yes, it was a great weekend, weather wise. Car count wasn't too bad. We had 43 cars for the weekend. 41 made first round. Chris Kilraine and Gary Ewing had problems and could not run. Luke Morris won the Lee Sherman S/SS race over Bunk Miller. Saturday's $20 S/SS Gamblers was won by Dan Lattimore over Matt Welker. Full round by round results will be posted shortly on the Tri-State S/SS Assn Forum. Thanks to all that came out. Hope you all had fun. I did.

In a great race, Dan Lattimore becomes the inagural S/SS Gamblers Champion. Never seen two racers go so hard after electing to split the purse at $80 each, LOL. Anderson won $20.

It was a great weekend weather wise (sunny both days, low 60's Saturday, low 70's Sunday). Hope everyone had as good a time as I did. Hoping to have an expanded schedule of races in 2010 (tracks permitting). See you all next year. Have a safe and great off season!

Mike, Wendy and Gary Carr

P.S. For all the Stocker racers that think they are at a disadvantage in S/SS Combo races, racing against faster cars with transbrakes and auto-shifters, since 1995, in 18 races at Hagerstown, Stockers have taken 22 of the 34 final round spots and 10 of the 17 wins (1997 was totally washed out). Not counting all the other S/SS races I've been a part of since 1995, in which Stockers have ruled the majority of the time. Just saying, it can be done. :~)
