This weekend the IHRA Pro-Am Tour stops off at Mt. Park Dragway in Clay City, KY and the track has a special deal for NHRA racers.
A weekend wavier will be in effect that will entitle an NHRA member to come race the IHRA event without the additional expense of a membership, car number, & chassis certification. Simply bring your valid NHRA liscense (original not copy) and fill out a short form which will save you $65 to $140. Your current NHRA membership and chassis certification will be accepted at this event and gives you the opportunity to "try it, before you buy it". No risk, No commitment, Just come and join in the fun! www.mpdragway.com |

That's a great way for Mountain Park (and IHRA) to get some crossovers who are close to an IHRA track but otherwise concentrate their time and $ on running NHRA. However, I don't see this on MP's website or IHRA's...is this something that may be offered at other events? Think this is a really good way to improve IHRA car counts...I would definitely run Jackson if they offer it since I'll be back in GA by then, but not; unfortunately, in time to run at Clay City.

They did this at the Byron Dragway pro-am a couple weeks ago.
Everyone should try to go to Clay City. It is always a good race and you are treated really well there. Big crowds, big fireworks show.

On DRC it looks like pretty slim car counts, a few NHRA racers but didn't offset the larger numbers from Carolinas (many with CM cars) that didn't make the tow over. I realize the payout/entry fee ratio is not the best given lower contingency postings but it still seems like they would have pulled better numbers. Personally, I hope their car counts improve and think their classes give more people a chance to race beyond their local tracks.

I've been to the event a couple times. Missing this year, as it's the only vacation my wife has except Christmas, so we're visiting family.
...But I did steal her '08 Charger 3.5L for today, and am sitting in the lanes at Dragway 42. Ran 16.63 @ 86 mph! Needs more gear. ![]()

We would have been there with three cars but for a mechanical issue with one of our tow vehicles that didn't get repaired in time for us to make it for the Saturday race. And no point making an 8 hour tow for one event for us . . . we are disappointed we weren't able to make it.
