Unless I'm reading the class specs wrong,I don't see a factor to run the Dakota in super stock.I do see a note that says "stock only not eligible for super stock"...what gives? I know I've seen the mid size trucks in S/S.
I was looking at the 5.9 Drag pak combo and then was looking for a non GT class and couldn't find it If this needs to move to the tech section,no problem.

I imagine it would run GT/TA or GT/TB. You would take the shipping weight of the year truck in question, divided by the HP rating of the engine in question, to determine Classification.
(edit) 1995 Dakota, 112" wheelbase, shipping weight 2,835 pounds. 2009 5.9 Dodge engine rated 275 HP. 2,835 divided by 275 = 10.30, making it a GT/TA.

Correct. GT Truck, Modified Truck, or Stock only.

Chris,
The Dodge Dakota that Shane Studley has listed for sale here on classracer in the race car section is run in GT with a 360 motor.

With the drag pak engines being fuel injected, GT Truck is the only class they fit....Modified Truck requires a carb....
Mike...can you use the shipping weight for a 4 cylinder truck even if you are installing a V8 in it ?.....a V8 Dakota is about 200 lbs. heavier..... D L Rambo...... |

D.L., there was a rule at one time about using "the heaviest V8 gasoline engine", or something to that effect. I would guess that means using the shipping weight of a particular vehicle, using the shipping weight of the heaviest gasoline engine available in that particular body style (I can;t find my rulebook to verify).
(edit) From the 2008 NHRA Rulebook, for SS/GT (car): "Shipping weight of vehicle can may be adjusted a maximum of 250 pounds to fit car in class, provided shipping weight does not drop below 2,500 pounds. Car can move up or down in classes. If weight is added, must be properly attached; see General Regulations 4:2. Shipping weight will be determined by using the power to weight factor of the vehicle with the heaviest gasoline engine and appropriate transmission, and multiplying the factor times the horsepower or performance rating. The proper class weight will then be determined by dividing this figure by the horsepower or performance rating of the engine used. Class is determined without driver weight. Once Classification weight is calculated, 170 pounds will be added for driver to arrive at minimum weight". For GT truck, it states the following in the '08 Rulebook: "Shipping weight of vehicle can may be adjusted a maximum of 250 pounds to fit car in class, provided shipping weight does not drop below 2,500 pounds. Car can move up or down in classes. If weight is added, must be properly attached; see General Regulations 4:2. Shipping weight will be determined using the power to weight factor of the 1990-2007 vehicle and multiplying the factor times the horsepower or performance rating of the engine used. Class is determined without driver weight. Once Classification weight is calculated, 170 pounds will be added for driver to arrive at minimum weight".

At Sonoma I was pitted next to John Winslow Jr`s Dakota, I believe it runs in GT/TA, not sure what engine he uses. I think this is the same truck that Steve Wann used to race.
