Default Nhra unleashed

I saw on NHRA.com that they will be showing Nhra unleashed on Fox Sports. Well can somebody please explain to me why they can packed the sportsmen from the national events for a tv package? It would be fun to watch stock/super stock/ comp and the rest on maybe a 2hr show on tv. Nhra please do something.

Watch the stands empty after the pros run at a National Event, and you'll get your answer. While all of us here would salivate at a show like that, the general channel flipper will do the equivalent of leaving the stands after the pros run - change the channel. Plus, a two hour show would only give you an hour of action, 15 minutes to explain index racing, and the other 45 to explain the CIC system.

But I'd say NHRA is banking on fans coming out to watch the UNLEASHED series after several TV shows play this winter. We'll see if the stands get any spectators next year. If they do, watch NHRA pursue a fast street car format and the heads up on a pro tree index show. Only time will tell.

Its like that because NHRA pushes the pros and craps on the sportsman racers. People like Pinks because its about the cars, people love cars and speed and the stories because some of the drivers. How many average people would have loved to cheer for the little AMC this past weekend? the reason why Pinks works is because the people that run it care about the racing. NHRA uses the sportsmen as a side show so nobody really cares. Push the cars the racing and the people behind it, then success will follow.

The true success behind the PINKS formula is a simple format. Grouping closely matched cars for a shot at $10k, with a .5 second cushion. That is why it is so popular.

I pushed this issue earlier this year but only a few racers were willing to give it a try. Fans will pay to see the well prepped cars, hear the high rpm engines, and to see the big wheelies. But the average fan won't grasp the concept of indexes, dial unders, etc. In addition, it's too difficult for the average fan to identify each class and the technicality behind them. Until class racers can grasp this concept, it will continue to be a hard sell to spectators.
