Metal on magnet in trans pan?

I have quite a bit of metal on the magnet that sits in the bottom of my transmission pan.
I have suspected a broken sprag in the converter.
When I put an input shaft in the converter it turns freely in either direction. But so does my brand new converter.
The trans filter doesn't seem to have any debris in it.
I'm wondering whether to just put the new converter in, or possibly redo the trans? the trans only has about 8 runs on it since its been redone.

Art, the input shaft should turn freely in either direction. It's the stator that does not.

Some amount of ferrous metal in the pan is normal. If you have a big clump that looks like a hairball, that's a problem.

Art, that's more than I'd like to see. However, it's not terribly abnormal if you still have the differential sharing the same fluid as the transmission.

X2 It's been a while since I was in the transmission business,but if I remember correctly, it wasn't uncommon to find material stuck on the magnet on the Dodge /Chrysler transaxles.Most of the wear items in the transmission are brass or aluminum,so it would be unlikely that what you're seeing is from the trans itself.Most of the time we found that the side gears in the differential would wear in the carrier causing the debris on the magnet.

I have seen lots of transmissions with this amount of metal particles and no trans problems.

I agree with Alan, most of that type of debris is from the differential, which is a typical weak point.
