I have a 66 Chevelle that i am looking for a 12 bolt for and was told the 66/67 is different than the 68/72 .No body seems to know why.Can anyone on here shine some light on this.Thanks in advance

I've swaped 12 bolts from a 69 to a 67 with no problems on either car.

'65-'66 & early '67 are shorter than the later rear ends. Spring seats are different is some of those years, too.

The later unit is about 3/8" per side wider. Spring mounts are flat plates on the early one, using a formed steel top cup and a 7/16" bolt to hold the spring. 68-up use a small "tower" as a seat and the spring pigtail simply plugs into it.
