Default Are they legal?

I have a question regarding legal rear ends for stockers. Since the Drag Pak Challengers and the COPO Camaros both come with a 9" Ford style rear end, is that rear end now considered "corporate" and legal for all GM and Mopar stockers? The rule book states: " Original rear end may be replaced with another from the same automobile manufacturer". I was just wondering how NHRA was defining this.

When the CJs and DPs first came out I asked that question and was told no. Only the new cars can use those rears. But we do know how "liberal" the powers that be in Glendora have become!
As an example, in 1982-85, GM sold an over-the-counter service package rear for the Camaro that was a Dana 44 and you can't use a Dana in a Chevy.

It's mainly idle curiousity on my part. I may call Gracia this afternoon and see what he says now.

Didn't the 1LE cars actually have that rear installed at the factory?

And didn't they (NHRA) also disallow the use of an later model aluminum center section in the early 9" Ford rear axles?

Mopar stuff (as far as I know). The 9" is only legal in the V10 DP. The other DP must use an 8 3/4 or Dana. They have allowed a housing that Moser makes for the DP which is a stock looking 9" that Moser machines off the front, welds a ring around it and studs it for an 8 3/4. Really nice piece. Aluminum centers for the 8 3/4 not legal per Bruce in Stock. That is FWIW (For What It's Worth for the uniformed).

Just ask "Yo Ken" about what happened to him at Gainesville last year....and NHRA even put a reminder about it shortly thereafter.

I have also heard that you can't replace the 9" with a "corporate" rear (12 bolt into COPO, etc.). Does anyone know if that is true?

I tried to get the 9" accepted using the corporate line. They didn't buy it,
