Just heard on CBS radio this morning aboit a 5 month road construction project on 95 at GW bridge.
For fellow northern new england racers you should plan an alternate route south. |

You should never use GW bridge, use (95 to 287 Tappan Zee or better yet 84 Beacon Newburg bridge to 87 south to 287 south to N.J. And beyond. I grew up in that region this is the best way to go.

Head up your way a few times each year.
I will not use the GW Bridge or 95. The toll on the GW with a trailer............ Always use 287 to 87 to 84E. When heading south on 87 you can easily get to the GSP. Continue south on 287 brings you to central Jersey and NJTP.

Lee, that is definitely the best way to go. I live in Bridgeport, CT, and I always go 95 to 287 Tappan Zee Bridge. The last time I used the GW bridge was 2008 going to the Gainesville National Event.

Thanks for the info. I have done the GW thing in the past along with the other two. The Tapanzee is going to have to be redone pretty soon too(heard it on a NPR Planet money podcast about the bridge) so it must be true right! FYI for those RE Garden State Parkway....You can do it with a 13 foot tall trailer....but stay in the middle lane under the arch bridges...Not sure if a 13.5 could pull it off.... I wouldn't risk it....GW path has some antenna scraping bridges too....Ah the joys of the northeast corridor....

This is old news.Been working on it since last year.Believe it or not living on Long island,You need as many options as possible..Thay all suck most of the time. But gw is a good option .I figured out why they never traffic report staten island..Its worst than the gw9 out of 10 times..Just try and travel at off time.Life of a drag racer..not smart enough to quit

The construction taking place right now is on the northbound 95 where it crosses over the Harlem River and I -87. That is the bridge and interchange ramps they talk about. When that is done they will start on the southbound side ( Jersey bound) and redo the bridge and interchange ramps to I-87. It is not the GW bridge proper.. BUT IT REALLY WON'T MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE. Probably best time to pass through the area is about 2 am to 4 am.
