I could NOT reccomend the 6.0 diesel in the FORD. Seems a few run well and quite a few have issues that are expensive to repair.

Absolutely do not buy a 6.0 or a 6.4 diesel nothing but problems do not buy a 2003/2004 to 2008 with a 6.0 engine---- many recalls/blown head gaskets--MAJOR ENGINE proplems--bad injectors etc---only a 7.3 or the new 6.7 but never a 6.0---rest of the truck is OK-- look online see the horror stories!!!!

I am guessing since you are asking for opinions you dont work on diesels for a living. If I could not work on them I would pass. Not worth the risk. Too many expensive problems with them.

IF you can find a earlier FORD with the 7.3 diesel they are a good engine, although these trucks bring a premium price. The Dodge Cummins 03-early 07s have been really good rigs, although the auto trans will need attention if the truck has towed trailer most of its life. I assume that you are going to tow your race trailer and car? This should be light duty unless you have a LQ trailer and lots of storage area.

I looked for 8 months flew half way across the country to find a nice 7.3 with low miles. Mine is an '02 and when I bought it, it had 114k on the clock and now it might have 145k three years later but I've been over here in the 'stan for 2 years. My Dad has a 99 and this is the truck that sold me. Dad's is a two wheel drive crew cap dually and its just a nice truck that's all there is to it. The biggest problem with the 7.3 is the cam sensor. Mine went out about 6 months after I bought it. I called my Dad on the phone told him that my truck wouldn't start so he went to the KOI and got a cam sensor and brought me a 3/8 drive ratchet and 10mm socket. I had it changed out in 5 minutes and we were back on the road. I keep one in the glove box just in case. Other than that I change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter every 5K miles and its the best truck I've owned. Mine is a single wheel crew cab 4 wheel drive and I love it. Other than the passenger door where some dumba$$ backed into the side of it.
