Best way to combine lightness...with dependibility..on a 3500-lb car...283 and PG...
small tire too...might be foot-braked also... 1. 35-spline....gundrilled and lightened flanges.... 2. 33-spline....with lightened flanges.... 3. 33-spline...with no lightening... Realize one or two companies will gundrill the 33 spline...but being a heavier car... might not be the ticket? Figuring on an axle length of about 27/28 inches....(still measuring tire and rim combos...and not set on final housing dimension yet.) Thinking of finishing...with a lightweight steel spool...and housing ends...any favorites on these? Ring gears have been lightened.... Wondering if the fact that the "hit" is less...(footbraking)...that I might be able to get by with "less" axle...the 33? Your input is appreciated! |

One thing I might add...and this is my opinion...the difference in weight between the
33 and 35 is probably not too much....and by the time you "work" the 35...you're near (or at) the 33 ???? There is the strength factor...by having the larger diameter...and 2 extra splines... but I don't think it's that much more than the smaller shaft.... Do I sense that a lot of racers are using the "street/strip"...or "hy-torque" material axles...instead of the "race" type....especially in lower hp or stock classes? Certainly less expensive...wonder if they'd be ok here? |

Any of those will work. Have used 33 spline in a 92 camaro, 3,000 lbs. clutch leaving at 9,800, never broke a thing. Put 33 spline, rifle drilled, in a 67 nova SS\EM if I ever get to race it.

Ran non lightened Moser 33 spline axles with their spool for many years without issue in my nearly 3880 lb., small tire, footbrake launched Chevelle whose best 60 foot was 1.28.
