Recently acquired stocker has an Accel Calmap 6.0 Engine Management System.
The current set up is open loop, has separate O2 sensor system, and EGT's. I have a tune-up matrix that came with the car that allows fuel map changes based on % up and down from a base setting. I would like to talk to someone who has experience with this system to answer a few ( well, maybe more than a few) questions on how to effectively utilize this unit. I realize there is later technology out there, but this is going to have to work for now. Any helpers out there? BTW....Engine is a 98 LT1 prepared by Woodro Josey. Thanks, John |

Tom Goldman was familair with Gen 6 Accel units as I recall...
I had a Gen 7 Accel....and they are a lot different.... Woodro used Holley's as many did I think... A data logger or an A/F data recorder is very helpfull I had both but used an Innovate LM-1 mostly....and was way off in some areas...mostly low speed part throttle.....wide open down track was not too bad....but consistancy and predictability was not good...in some conditions.... You have a very steep learning curve and it is not fun...but once it is setup right...they work fine...

Used this system when first coming out with my stocker.
It's pretty straight forward. Just use common sense. Newer systems offer more control but the real benefit is faster processor. You need a data logger in some form. Old Innovate LM-1 will work and are cheap. I have 2 and will sell them. Data log your run: RPM and O2 at least Use the log to identify RPM areas which match cells in the fuel map. Average the O2 in that area. Calculate a percentage of change from logged O2 to target O2. Change the value up or down in the corresponding cell in the fuel map. The best thing to do is find a good tuner with chassis dyno in in your area. Only better if the tuner races the same series you do. Run the car on the dyno, ask questions and run the car. have fun!

Frank, Thanks for the input . Your process seems simple and logical. I have a data logger and O2 sensors so I can use your approach.
Thanks again. John |

John,
Send me an e-mail. I think I can dig up some of my old maps and print them out for you. Richscaz@hotmail.com

I agree with Frank 100% Or get the fuel maps offered from the gent that offered to send them to you.....He knows those cars.... Trust me it is not worth wrestling with this....... You will waste a lot of time and runs....or worse....hurt something in the engine from being too rich or lean.... I thought it can't be that hard......and no it isn't but you will waste a pile of time/runs and money getting there....and with the cost of racing today.... it is well worth paying for someones time to get a good baseline tuneup...

Rich will get you in the ballpark.
A chassis dyno session will make sure the tune is safe for your combination.
