After Dan failed to enter the Denver national event on time he stated that he was going to discuss the procedure with Graham Light. It looks like his request fell on deaf ears as NHRA is sticking with their National Event entry procedure.

Well I guess that throws out the "greedy for money" motives on various posts in the past.
I just do not understand the theory of their decision. I was involved in a similar situation several years ago at the Gators, and it seemed that their logic has not changed. How can IHRA let you pay at the gate, but NHRA you can't? Ron Ortiz U/SA money for nothing

It's like Jello - always room for more .But the problem for the NHRA is if you let a few enter late sooner or later it'll be like the IHRA where almost no one pre-enters because they don't have to .And it's tough to have enough staff when you don't know how many are coming .Case in point was Denver - who knew so few cars would show up ?

Good point Jack and one that I hadn't thought of. Considering staffing needs, couldn't they limit late entries to no more that quota, so that no more than was originally listed would be allowed. That way staffing would be sufficient for the event. Case in point Seattle quota for S/S is 40 and 28 are pre-entered. I know this will probably open a can of worms, but here goes. Couldn't NHRA still require pre-entries, but allow racers to enter late due to plans changing for the racer in question. Maybe I am way off here, but it would help with car counts, possibly.

$50 surcharge on entries after the posted deadline? That would weed out the slackers referred to earlier.
I was going to suggest a discount for early entry. What was I thinking??? Dale

It`s happened once to a well know racer everyone knows and I`m sure many others over the years. I don't understand what the big deal is. Rules are rules. They shouldn`t be changed because of one person regardless of NHRA`s reasons.

How much staff is needed to operate say 64 car field vs a 128 car field. Not many I would believe. It is good to know the entries ahead of time for parking, schedule, etc. But if you are in the entertainment business, you should be prepared for the expectant count. More is better, and can be easily adjusted to. The way it is now they are lowering entry quotas. And I will just about bet you that personnel working at the track are not being over paid. The only impact that a higher than expected car count does is require more pit space.
Having far less car count definitely hurts the promoter/event sponsor, but they should never be understaffed. Service is a value to the customer. Ron Ortiz U/SA they have been counters you know.

They state parking as a reason for not changing, but I believe they could care less about Sportsman parking. If I enter late at Maple Grove, do I get worse mud to park in than someone else?
