Default This is an open Letter To elderly racers

Some time ago I was approached by a couple of ladies in our local hospital in regards to my hair which is mostly grey, and some blond ! (I'm 76 years young) They asked if I would be interested in helping Cancer Patients who are in need of our color hair ! I had needed a hair cut at that time, but not really long, and they told me to get in touch With Locks Of Love, which is Nation wide, for the cancer patients that lose there hair as a result of Chemo Therapy treatments ! I and I'm sure others have been faced with this horrible sickness, my wife and I lost our son at age 15 of Cancer ! The people could use our hair for Wig's for these people ! My hair is now past the stage of stupid questions, and I'll leave it until the middle of March, and then donate it for some Cancer patient ! It's got to be 10 or more inches long ! Think about it ! The satisfaction of helping someone is GREAT ! ...John

been growing mine since june for the same reason, it does't cost anything
to do. But some of these charity's sell the hair you donate
to patient's. More people should do it

My youngest daughter has donated her hair to Locks of Love several times. It's a great cause! -Al

This finally works. For many years, Locks of Love would not accept grey hair.
On the request of a racer's wife, who was undergoing her 2nd round of chemo, I had let my hair grow for 5 years. She told me that I had "great" hair and many ladies my age would love to have hair like mine. I had a pony tail that irritated many track operators; I coach high school baseball & the team thought it was "cool"; I was unable to get TV work because of it. and I was ready to donate, but nobody wanted my hair! Finally, in January of 2014, Locks of Love changed their policy. THEY FINALLY WOULD ACCEPT MY GIFT OF GREY HAIR. YEAHHH!!! I got a free haircut, the thanks of the ladies at Great Clips, and a nice certificate.

Was it worth the hassle? Hell Yeah! Last week, while grocery shopping, one of my former players introduced me to his Aunt. He had told her my "pony tail" story. She laughed, told me she had completed her chemo regimen, and asked how I liked her new hair. It was grey, she was thrilled...and I got a big hug & thank you from her. Was it my hair she had....no, but it doesn't matter.

Any age, there is a need for your hair. So let it grow...irritate somebody! It's worth it.

Great cause. I went through this with my wife about 13 years ago and loosing her hair was something she really feared most about the chemo. Support from caring people is the best way to battle this and may even be the best medicine. Keep up the good work.

By the way, my hair isn't grey, it's chrome.
