Default Shipping race tires

Has anyone here found a cheap way to ship tires? Pair of 13x31 tires UPS wants 90.00 per tire! Denver to Bristol TN. Has to be a cheaper way. Was told to check out U SHIP or Greyhound. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well it wasn't race tires but I had 4 new truck tires shipped to my house for $15.25 per tire, from Illinois to Washington state. FedEx.

It helps the crunch the tires flat, and secure them with shipping tape. UPS measures length, width, and height, by reducing any of those dimensions, the price is reduced.

UPS changed their size vs weight measurement system the first of this year. They are determined to collect every dollar in the universe for shipping fees. I have to check every package to make sure it is packed in as small a box as possible. They use cubic inches to determine which way you pay, size or weight. After I weigh the package I use their formula of length x width x height divided by 166 equals pounds and that is what you pay for unless the weight is greater. I try to use the USPS as much as possible but not all parts will fit in a flat rate box.
good luck, Roland

Thanks for all the replies. Checked with fed ex today and they will ship tires for 42.00 each. Less than half what UPS wanted. I do not think I will be using UPS as much anymore. They are out of hand on larger/oversize items.
