Was watching it on Allaccess and saw that happen. All things considering it could have been worse. Glad the driver was ok. When I saw this happen though it hit home. 2 weeks ago we were planning to go to the Seattle divisional race. Was looking at my log books and realized I had 120 runs on the gear set. Decided to check them and noticed a couple of cracks. So was going to put in a new set. When I pulled out my left axle to my surprise (and shock) I found a twisted axle spline. I hate to think what might of happened if I hadn't checked it. Needless to say I have new axles ordered. And I'm updating to a 35 from 33 spline.

smart move on your part---take a look at your axles every so often they will get an ever so slight "twist" in them especially the smaller diameter axles 28-31-33- some times a 35 too-- depends on the weight and power level range you are operating in your's definitely looks like it wants to break SOON---

That's the way I got them from Strange years ago. I have Mark Williams axles on order.

Looking at the wear pattern I'd say they did go all the way into the gears. The splined area just happens to be a little longer.

It is possible the axles are designed for multiple applications and some may be deeper.
