I'm told different opinions on coating on pistons. Even been
told it will wear off quickly. Good or bad? I'm also told there are different types of coating. So if coating is good, what kind of coating? Thanks, J.R. |

A good quality coating on the piston skirt will make the hone finish on the cylinder wall last longer. I've seen that myself, and my findings were duplicated by several others, including the Morgan brothers who worked with Reher and Morrison.
An oil shedding coating on the bottom might prevent oil from clinging to the piston, allowing more oil to return to the oil pan. A thermal barrier coating on the top is most likely illegal. But it will allow for a tighter piston to wall clearance, and will reflect the heat back into the chamber.

I'm thinking of going with the Line2Line APC coating on the skirts, but I'm not a class racer, just a bracket racer.... I run a vacuum pump so I am also going to get the wrist pins coated. I am a first timer with these processes.... Discussion?

Look at Polydyne as well, had 565 outlaw prostreet NOS motor had 3 different coatings 1. ceramic top of piston 2. coating on piston skirts 3. Coatng inside piston and also had pins coated as well. Everything looked brand new when pulled it down for freshen up.
