whats with the pre-stage and stage lights flashing at vegas? have not seen this before.is this the new normal going forward? looks distracting as hell !!

I believe this is a four wide racetrack, and since they are using two lanes, this would be the norm. But you would think they would fix it

Watching it on NHRA tv lights are normal from drivers view

It is just a phenomenon seen by the TV camera. The refresh rate of the LED's and the shutter speed of the camera are out of sync which causes that flicker / rolling effect. To the driver, there is no flicker and they look solid.

This was mot happening on the driver's side of the tree for sure! They would have stopped racing until it was fixed. That would be distracting beyond belief! We were there on Friday and we didn't see that happening at all. I have never seen this on NHRA TV before.ever before.

Alan Reinhart explained on NHRA.TV that the staging lights used at the four-wide tracks (even when running just two lanes) emit light at a different frequency than the others on the tour.
The digital cameras they use sync up with them and make them appear to flash and flicker. They look fine to everyone at the track. |
