Fram Racing HP8 Oil filter

Small blk.chevy .Is this filter any good,and do any of you racers use them,any problems please explain,Thanks guys

Sorry, I would not use a FRAM oil filter of any kind. You can check the archives for horror stories...

I ran the hp-8 because of it's short lenght for header clearance. I never had any problems with it but there are better filters out there. Wix--K&n are two of the best in my opinion.

A local customer of mine works in the laboratory at the local Sunoco refinery ran some flow tests, and filtration tests on oil filters. Fram tested worst of all, in all tests they ran.
Wix (NAPA) filters flowed more oil, and trapped the most dirt. They used a spin on Chevy filter, because the most common filter. Wix. also makes NAPA filters. The number they tested was the common one quart filter. The NAPA number is 1061.

The NAPA 1069 (or Wix 51069) will work for this application too. Benefit is that it's about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the common Chevy 1060 and 1061's. Back in my NAPA days we used to sell the 1069 to guys with header clearance problems, especially to guys with the "shorty" headers on street rods and rat rods.

I would love to hear more to back this up. I use the wix racing filters and have done so for years with zero problems stockers, super stockers and street cars

Personally I have never had a problem with any of the Fram filters that I have used. I have quit using over the counter spin on filters on my race engines over ten years ago after I had problems with some AC filters collapsing. I now use a System 1 filter and have had good results. I also don't use passenger car oil in my engines either. Haven't had any lifter issues since that change. Presently I have been using Lightning Racing oil with good result as well. They are a company local to me that makes billet rods and has developed some good racing oil to compliment their rod line.
