Read in one of my old magazines where Dale Hamm proposed shortening the track to 1000' several years before Muldowney's wreck.

I've always thought that going to one thousand feet wasn't an answer. Make some changes to their rules that would slow the fuel cars down where a 300 mile per hour run was not he norm but could still happen on a rare occasion. BP

If Sanair ran to 1000 feet it would have 3454 feet of deceleration distance to the beginning of the sand trap. That is compared to Englishtown's 2558 feet in the same configuration. So it seems that shutdown length at Sanair wasn't quite the same issue as Englishtown. In any case, Muldowney's crash was contributed to a front tire tube coming out and fouling the steering, if I recall correctly.

The Shutdown at my home track (LVMS) is very uphill.
