Growing up, I was so envious of all the great SoCal racers and cars.I have loved going out to the races when it's crappy in Colorado. Seeing the way things are headed, is Vegas going to be the last great Div7 track?

It is a very different world out there right now. Let's see where we are in the next 5 years or so. I hope you all, as racers, have multiple good tracks to go to for many more years.

Not in California anyway. Which brings up another question, Why is NHRA still leasing expensive office space in Southern California when they OWN office space in Indiana? Other than the BOD likes their Southern California life style.

The owner of LVMS is NOT sportsman friendly or interested.
The track manager does his best just to keep it going on. Do not count on it continuing for the long run in it's current form and amount(See Sears Pt.)!

It absolutely puzzles me why the Bakersfield question cannot be resolved. It is arguably the most conveniently located track in California for all concerned other than the extremes. Is it the Bowsers? Is it NHRA? Is it all just the result of pure greed with nobody willing to share the pot and expenses. This track has the potential to draw 900 cars and you can't tell me that SOMEBODY can't make money hosting this event. Is there any opportunity for an independent group or association to step up and rent the track working in concert with NHRA?
I get the fact that the Bowsers make their bones on the March Meet and a few rice rocket races....and now they have discovered $300 test sessions as a way to keep the doors open.....good on them....but unfortunate for the Sportsman class racer But am I crazy or is there not a bucket of cash to be made at this track under the auspices of the NHRA? |

Mark,
As I understand it the NHRA wants too big of fees and a piece of all the action. If they would give a little I'd be willing to bet something could be worked out. I really like Vegas but I prefer Famoso. It's fast, safe and well maintained. Let's face it, Famoso is a private enterprise that is going along quite well without NHRA. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. NHRA hasn't figured out some of something is better than all of nothing.
