Cam bearing installation

Looking for a tool to install cam bearings in a production environment. Does everyone still use the hammer method,or is there a more efficient way of doing it?

Most use the hammer method tool sold by Lisle, Snap-On and others.

The BHJ tool is very nice, and it pulls the bearing mechanically. The BHJ tool is aimed toward a production environment where you are working on various makes and types of engines.

I have an OTC cam bearing tool. Not very fast but a must for roller cam bearings. Sounds like the same as BHJ.

Mike, I thought everybody used the 4 pound Ford tool.
Surely you've got a few of those ;-)

If you have the OTC tool that threads in the cam bearings, it's worth gold!
Similar to the BHJ tool, more compact and was discontinued many moons ago!

Not sure what you mean by "production environment" ?? I have the BHJ tool but usually grab my good old K-line most of the time. I got the BHJ in a trade with a customer and it works nice but to be honest with you it is slow and I cant say that it does any better of a job than the K-line with a big hammer.

The other thing with the BHJ is that you have to buy or make different mandrels for each bearing size. I made a couple for the late model Hemis and the LS with the big front bearing.

After having it for a while now I would probably not recommend it for everyday use. I rarely use it and I probably do 3 sets of bearings a week ?

Just my opinion,
