Greg,

You know the Nova I have now and it has Moser axles and spool. In the past with other cars, I have used Strange or Mark Williams parts.

No question, when comparing looks, the Moser parts are in last place. The machine work looks ?coarse? and the spool is considerably heavier than Strange or Mark Williams. In addition, the right axle has excessive slack between the axle spline and spool spline.

I will soon be replacing the spool and axles with Strange parts. When placing the order, I will also upgrade to 5/8 studs. This allows using the thick washer and shouldered wheel nuts. I like the wheel nut retention much better than messing with the 1/2, street type ?mag? nuts.

Larry,
Was anything on that car good enough for you?

Greg,
Nothing wrong with Moser stuff.
Great Price!
Great Quality!
Great Tech support?
Great racers programs too?

In the car I sold Larry i bought the spool and axles. I had a local guy install them.

In the car I bought from Greg I ordered a complete rear from MOSER. It is a real nice piece.

"great quality?" With that kind of fitment, Larry's doing himself a favor by replacing these parts. Sure Moser Guarantee's it's parts, but a broken rearend sure can play havoc on a race car! I prefer MW products but would have no problem with Strang products. I've never needed to replace rear axles, spools or ring & pinion gears thru 2 race cars in 3 different classes over the last 20 years.

You're 100% correct, there is a reason Moser came in the market with cheap stuff.

The Moser splines are broached, not rolled, and it's done AFTER heat treat, so you end up with sloppy fitting, soft splines.
A big issue?
Not really, I know a guy that cuts and resplines his own axles with a cut-off wheel, if that is what you want, go for it.

Check out Tom at Tom's Differentials, quality US made parts at realistic prices, and he has his own spools and axles done, because the Moser stuff is in fact junk. If the spline engagement isn't correct, you shatter side gears in a posi unit real quick.
