Default Lower Class Stockers

When was the last time that a Stocker running 13.00 or slower won a national event? Has a front wheel drive stocker ever won a national or divisional event? Should the lower class cars be in a seperate eliminator (like there would ever be a seperate eliminator)? I've always liked the uniqueness of all the slower cars/trucks. Jeff Ross

I thought Yac's win was with a Citation... '88 Summernationals?

I made three semis with my EF/SA Turismo (Dutch Classic, Nat'l Open @ US13, and Cecil County FMDRS) and finished #11 in NHRA Div. 1, missing one race. Close, no cigar, but I was still learning the car at the time, too.

The stats are skewed against them just because there are so few of them, and the 'hitters' choose to run faster cars. Put one of them in a slow car, and you've still got a winner.

Larry Hill's son won a National Event in a six cyl. pickup truck...NHRA M/N/O/P Stock...in IHRA it would be GT/PU2PEA1 to the seventh power.

I believe Mark is the only one to have won a Nat'l. I, like Mike, got close a few times at some IHRA and NHRA Div/Open races, but never quite got there. Did get back to back IHRA eighth place Divisional finishes in a 17-18 second Sunbird in '03 and '04. Maybe one day one of us can join Mr Yacavone.

I've run a few rounds against stockers in the slower classes. One of the most fearsome was Lane Weber in his V/SA Buick. Others that come to mind were a fourth round race at Indy against Steve Tarrance and a second round race against Tom Kasch at the same event in 1994. I wouldn't be seeking out any of those guys for a rematch. A slower class car in the hands of someone who has a good handle on dialing and knows how to drive the stripe can give you ulcers.

Mark Yacavone won the '86 Summernationals in Englishtown with a 1981 Ford Escort FWD stocker (that was borrowed!). He is the only person ever to win a NHRA National Event in a FWD car.

Neil Smedley won the Las Vegas sping race in Q/SA or P/SA a few years ago. I had a good time watching him take out some real hitters along the way.

nothing like spotting one of those cars 8 seconds on the tree at a combo race ... 8 seconds seems like 8 minutes.

Perhaps.... just perhaps... the gross injustice of the "first’ rather than "worst" red-light thing could be a factor as to why this question is even being asked.

IHRA/NHRA, if you’re listening, correct this now. Don't take a poll, don’t ask for input: Just institute the change without even telling anyone. It's time to end this lunacy.
