I would like to encourage everyone to please email NHRA staff directly on the national event quota situation. I believe (please someone correct me if I am wrong) the email format is first intial last name@nhra.com example, (jpeterson@nhra.com)
The SRA are already doing this, but I believe it would behoove us to email individually. Lets break their email server on this topic !!!! Keep it polite, professional and to the point. No bashing, no foul language. Some considerations, at least as I see them: Leave out any reference to revenue. We already know our entry fees are dimes compared to the spectator dollars from a National Event. The dream of winning a national event is, in the case for many of us, the sole reason we race NHRA as opposed to bracket racing. Literally half of us are out before the first pro car goes down the track anyway. So impacting the pro TV schedule should not be an issue. Acknowledge that yes, many of us take way too long to go the lanes when called to be paired. Personally, I suggested a timer. After X minutes, if we are not up there, we are out. We should all work to improve that situation, as I do believe it is a major thorn in the side of NHRA for class racing. They have added much 'fluff' to National Events, while the core classes quotas had been reduced. Examples are small tire/large tire 'exhibition' runs, local bracket race cars, gassers that hardly ever make it down the track clean, "nostalgia pro stock', jet cars, wheelstanding school buses etc We are the reason NHRA was founded. We just want to race for crying out loud. Kp Last edited by Kevin Panzino; 12-31-2022 at 03:25 PM. |

You can find quotas here, but they only have for the Gators right now.

It cant hurt a bit to send some e mails regarding the low quota numbers at the national events. Maybe with enough persuasion we might be able to get NHRA to raise the quota a bit. Quota for the Gators this year is 50 for most of the sportsman classes.I suspect most of the other events will have a similar quota. Lets say NHRA raises the quota to 65 cars. The event would still have filled with 8 grade points in less than 15 minutes in Stock and probably 30 minutes in SS. Raising the quota still wont help the guys that dont chase the grade points. With the amount of classes that NHRA has added in the recent history and cutting back the amount of days for the nationals we will never see quota where it once was. If you want to run a national event you have to play their game. Get a minimum of 8 GP and be really fast on your computer when the event opens for entry.
I could see NHRA changing the grade point system to make it even harder to enter. 9-10 grade points to enter first would be even more difficult to attain those numbers.

![]() Quote:
Last year they went to releasing the quotas a few days before the event open. They used to do it for the complete year in the beginning but, decided to release the quota the Monday before the event opened on Wednesdays. |

I took your suggestion and emailed NHRA. Surprisingly,I even got a reply.
My concern wasn't so much the low quota,as it was the "system'.While I do think that the quotas could be raised a little,I know why they have them. What I thought could be implemented was some sort of "standby system". They said they looked into this, but the current system is a more fair of a way to do it. I don't know what is fair about someone with 1 or 2 grading points getting into a National event before someone with 6,7,or even more than 8. But that is the system. And it doesn't sound like it will change in the foreseeable future. It will be very interesting to see what the final entry list looks like at some of the upcoming National events. |
