Default Internet rumors

Did anyone hear that Grumps Vega actually did not sell, as shown on Barret Jackson Auction ? I saw it got to 525 Grand, and I understand, by way of internet, that it never changed hands. Is this a BS thing, thats really just a "reality" show now ? Shelby's Cobra got 5 Mil ? I thought that was a stretch.

Kenny

Cool Re: Internet rumors

Kenny--I was there and they had real bidders (not "Shills") on both of those cars - Both were restored to high standards and looked super - but we'll never know if they exchanged owners at any price..........

Jack, you got to see Grumps car ? That would have been something. I think the guy who won the bid, on the Vega, also won that badasses Cuda, the orange custom one. He has a few other very very nice rides tucked away.

When Jenkins had the Vega at Pomona during the Winternationals we were staying at the same motel and he had water circulating through the engine all night long.

Well, I'm 45 next month.

I never got to see the Vegas or Monza's race, but did see a couple of Camaro's with Lepone driving. I met Grump, when Brian Browell used to let me hang around , and learn a little about comp cars and V-6's. That was a blast I will always treasure. Bill was funny, but very to the point.Brian even found a beer coozie with a tremendous likeness of Bill, and we kept it in the trailer, only letting him use it. That was good for a few laughs, especially the first time Bill saw it. I went to about 3 or 4 a yr w/ him and Jenkins, from 96 to 99. Like I said, great times. I have one pic, if I can find it, of Grump and crew warming , what I think was in 80, Camaro ProStocker.

That's really a shame about the auction stuff. I enjoyed watching that, until now.

The Barrett Jackson Auction is a SCAM!!!!!!! I have a collector car shop within 1 mile of his showroom
60% or more of the cars sold are bought back by the owners at 10% in + lane fee+ 10% out OUCH!!!!
ask Jeff Lee about his experiences,I get alot of the cars that didnot sell here in my showroom after the auction. Some stuff is real and ther are some good deals but not what the TV hypes. Also his figures for sales pack on his %of commission not the sale price.
Jackson himself is a crook ask anyone in AZ and they will tell you. I am glad he is taking his circus to Vegas. It is sad to say that his rigged "reality" auction sets the market for the cars we all love but just watch closely, like we do here, and see the phony phone bidders bid a guy up 200k or watch an owner cry out after trying to run up a bidder himself and buying his car back at the drop of a gavel but puttin on his game face for TV.ther is a current law suit brought on buy a judge that paid for a certian amount of stage time for his car and got bumped bya commercial and his car got clobbered in the price so he is suing.
It is cool to see the old cars but to give hime SOOOO much money and attention is sad. If you are in town go to Russo and Steele or ICA or Kruse...less crowds ,better cars and more accurate pricing.
Also dont go and drink and bid on cars its like picking up on women in a bar they all look good with enough alcohol but you never know what you will bring home.
