Hey guys,
I need your ideas, impute, suggestions and storys if you are willing. No, I'm not asking for any "Trick-Speed-Secrets" as I know that would'nt happen anyway on a public forum. Here's the story, a year ago I purchased this '66 Chevy II Wagon from a friend of a freind in Minneapolis (some of you may know the car) ![]() I plan on running down the drag strip from time-to-time and run the streets with on ocasion. The wagon weights 3220 w/driver, currently has a 1.76 'glide w/brake, 3000 Hughes convertor, 4.30 rear gear, 29x9 Hoosier slicks. ![]() This is what the engine combination is suppose to be: Chevy 327 small journal engine - 4" bore Flat top pistons Crane hydraulic cam #10011 .500 lift on Int/Exh - 246* @ .050 on Int/Exh - 106* lobe seperation Heads are #462 castings which are a pair of '80's era Super Stock heads that were prepared by Jack Machula of JAX Head Service in Hamel Minnesota. They are to have 1.940 intake valves, 1.500 exhaust valves, and have been angle milled to 58 c.c. The engine has steel shim .018" head gaskets Intake manifold is a Victor Jr with a 1" additional spacer, and a modified Q-Jet carb. The engine currently has a modified HEI distributer in it. Exhaust is via Hooker Super Competition fenderwell headers with 1-3/4" primary tubes. This is what the old-girl looks like today......... ![]() I'd like to here from those of you that have had ran 327's in either Stock or Super Stock, or even old Street/Strip combinations from back-in-the-day. Due to my current economic situation (unemployed) I'm not in a position to spend a lot of money on the car, so my challenge is to find a way to make it perform as well as it can with what I have or some inexpensive improvements. I 'm fairly certain that the 3000 RPM convertor is not ideal, so I may need to consider speaking with someone about taking what I have and improving it. But I do have a good Trans Specialties T350 manual valve bodied trans and one of their 10" convertors that according to the numbers is a unit that was to be around 4300 rpm behind a stout engine package. Anyway, I'll stop at this point and let you comment or ask me questions, and I'll do my best to provide any and all information to help you help me. Thank You guys, Glenn Hayes

Glenn,
The old gal looks good. Thanks for the call. Enjoyed the visit. The extra New Goodyear Front runner tires I have are 24" tall. That might put it down a little too much? let me know if that is what you think. Later, Adger

I think if you can find a 2.08 gear set that will make it both run quicker & feel better on the street as well as the track! I went from 1.82 in my 6cyl car to a 2.08 picked up .12 to .15 & the thing just drove better. Oh when money lets you have someone build you a converter for your combo.
