Rock, to me this total "BS" on Jay's part. And I hope the commitee dosen't sit on their hands on this.
The folks that chose to use to look at the forcast and made the call to "come in out of the rain" are now being punished. I could not justify spending several hundred dollars just to sit and watch it rain. And I was right !!!!!! Jay just made it a deal, where you "HAVE" to show up. No matter what!!! you really dont have to do anything. Unless you are one of the 3 or 4 guys that still chase "points" than divisional races are nothing else than a ticket to indy. There are plenty of races to go to, and going to a typically crowded race to watch it rain doesnt sound like much fun to me. Thats why when I do go, I usually make 2 runs and go home. I have much more fun at home working on new projects than paying money to get in a bad mood.

I dont like it for my purpose for sure, but I wont voice my opinion on whether it was the right decision for all the racers. It was a pretty miserable deal however. What I do think is a bad deal is that tech is closed, all fields are set, except t/d, tad, tafc, t/s get 2 rounds of qualifying. Does this mean if anybody is not qualified in those fields yet, they will be able to get in? For instance a JEGS car... John Coughlin who is not qualified, and is # 2 in JEGS All Star points... Im sure that has nothing to do with it.. Especially the alcohol cars would need a lap or 2 down the track before competition, but t/d an t/s are bracket cars, they should not be on kill to the point where they need to test at a race to get down through there...

Think about the poor track owner being held hostage... He is having a rain date race and those fields are already set. No more money generated by new entries to cover his overhead. I don't know how the contract reads, but from a former track owner I would have had a REAL problem with that call. NHRA should have rules and policies that help the unfortunate track owner, esp in these hard times.

Adger, you would be correct at another track, but in this case it's ORP which NHRA ownes.

That was my point! They make rules that suit themselves.... They can loose money, they are a Not for profit..
This must be a good example of the large profit level of a Div. race to NHRA. They have chosen to loose money or they made enough to throw away the profits from another weekend of racing (race date used for Makeup race). They are applying a double overhead to a race. I know what it cost me to open a track, pay employees, insurance and all the costs. This just isn't good business sense, much less the correct way to treat customers. Rick, I was trying to state it nicely and let eveyone read between the lines instead of just calling it a dumb A** business move. O.K. now I 've done gone and said it.. shame, shame...

Did SS ever make a qualifying run? Fuel check, weight etc...?
I call BS also based on this (no runs) and agree with JimiB's observations. Based on another post I am apparantly wrong. Seems if you went thru tech you are in. Last edited by SS Engine Guy; 04-25-2010 at 12:46 PM. |
