Hi guys. I need to replace the heater blower motor in my Dad's 67 GTO this weekend. Non AC car. Will the underhood heater box portion with the motor and cage come out without removing the fender?
Thanks |

I know on the '68-72 A-body that you have to remove the inner fender well.

If memory serves me well I had to remove the fender on my 67 goat to get at the last bolt that held in the heater core in (this was back in 74). I swear they hung that thing from a wire and built the car around it!

should--- on 68-72 you need to cut the inner fender panel and just bend it back a bit to gain access to the blower motor when you are finished bend it back into place and silicone the seam---- no need to remove the inner fender totally--- that's the way we did it at the dealers when they were new--- if you want to do it correctly then you need to loosen the inner panel and move it out of the way

On my 68 GTO and also took off the Fender too. Cleaned up all the leaves that got stuck at the bottom and back of the headlights and cleaned up/painted the battery box. Dan |

I pulled out my 67 Pontiac shop manual, and will send the procedure if you PM me. Send your email address and I will send a picture of the procedure. Looks like you don't have to pull the fender or the inner fender, but the fan has to be oriented a certain way to snake it out.

MARK ---this is the shop manual way of doing it
TO REMOVE 1) Disconnect negative battery cable 2) Unclip hoses from the inner fender 3) Disconnect the electrical feed to blower motor 4)Turn the front wheels to the extreme right 5) Remove the inner fender retaining bolts allow the inner fender to rest on the tire & use a block of wood to position fender away from the firewall 6)Remove the screws attaching the blower mounting plate to the air inlet housing 7)Remove the screws attaching the blower motor to the mounting plate 8)Remove the clip attaching the cage to the shaft & remove the blower motor TO INSTALL 1)Position the blower motor in the vehicle then install the attaching clip to the cage & shaft 2)Install and tighten the screws attaching the motor to the mounting plate, then install & tighten the screws attaching the mounting plate to the inlet housing 3)Reposition the inner fender removing the block of wood and secure using the retaining bolts 4)Attach the electrical feed to blower motor 5)Attach the hoses in the clip 6))Re-attach the negative battery cable 7) Check blower for operation hope this helps--FED387 |
