I have heard that Buick gave away some Regals to be built into class racers in the eighties. Does anyone have any information that they would be willing to share? Anyone on here recieve one? Any turbo cars?
Thanks, Daren

Look up Lloyd MacKay, I know that he had a black Regal that had its title read as a test car only. He set the U/SA record quite easily at Orlando Speedway some years ago.
Ron Ortiz U/SA I thought that Buicks were for grandmothers.

Bill Chaffin's SS/BX Regal is a factory produced race car. Originally sold to Ken Duttweiler.

Dick Baker had a SS/XA. Car given by buick through Len Imke I believe. We did the chassis at Richmond Performance center when we owned the ALTON dealership in Richmond Indiana.

![]() SS/XA was a very strange class UNLIMITED ENGINE MODIFICATIONS, 600 cfm Holley, 9" tire and an auto trans. Way too much power for the tires of the day and hard to get replacement parts after the Indy Lights started using the same engine from Buick. Diamond & Beeler also ran SS/XA with an Olds Cutlass Supreme with the Buick powerplant. Bob

How fast did an XA car ever go? I imagine with today's small tire race tricks you go mid 8's or better.

What am I missing....in the 1980's there were decent tire compounds and huge sizes available. Did this S/S class have a tire size restriction?

X class had a wt per Cu inch and tire rule of 9 inch It was all stick then asked for auto and I think Dick Baker might have been the lone auto in the country. Yes I think Bobby still has the car.
