I have some pistons I need some help on. The are 4.150 bore (measured at the skirt), 1.000 deck height. The exhaust valve relief is .200 lower than the intake relief. I think these were for a 393, but, dont remember for sure. Can you tell by the valve info what head these may be for?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Merry Christmas..... Wade |

Since most 393 Fords are based on regular Windsor blocks (maximum bore is usually 4.040", maybe 4.060"), and you have a piston made for a 4.155" bore, I'd guess what you have is made for an aftermarket block. With a 1.00" compression height, I'd have to guess the intended stroke is close to 4.00, because the aftermarket blocks are either 9.2" or 9.5" deck height. Without seeing the top, I can't hazard a guess as to what the head is that it is designed for. I take it there is no brand name or logo on them, nor a forging number?

Without a picture I cannot be sure but sounds like a YATES type piston, for either the YATES or a Twisted Wedge head. Alot of the cup teams used to use a 4.100 or even a 4.125 bore in the Dart block, with a 4" stroke crank. More than likely were originally fitted with a set of 6.2 rods as well.
If it were in a 9.5 deck hight block, -1.00 Comp hight, -2.00 1/2 the stroke, leaves you a 6.5" rod, so if it were in a 9.2 deck block it would use the very common 6.2" rod. unless you use a bigger crank, but you get the idea from there.
