Default Insurance surcharge for Stockers???

One of their shills on another board is contending that NHRA hasn't raised prices for Sportsman competitiors in TEN YEARS.

Can anyone tell me when they introduced the "insurance surcharge" (is it $40.00?) to provide insurance coverage for the PROS (since they not only don't have to pay an entry fee, but can't afford to pay their own way, apparently?) Am I mistaken, or is this actually the case? I'd like to know for sure before I go off half-cocked...

Any information will be appreciated.

Also, can anyone remember when the last time they had an increased payout for a Stock or S/S Class win, national event Eliminator win, or #1 qualifier?

I can't remember that far back... gettin' old...

The entrance fee in the 90's used to be $185 (I think) but you got one crew pass along with it. now you pay for the crew seperately. That's an $85 increase 45%.
So who are they BSing
Class win and #1 qualifier were all contingency based.

Bill,

Alan Patterson and I were talking a few weeks back, and we won as much for divisional races in the '70s as you can win now. That same money certainly won't buy as much today, which makes it a cut in pay outs. I remember when Norm Pera went up to $100.00 for entries at his Lousiana tracks (Don't think they all charged the same back then.), everybody about had a stroke. Jeanie and I paid $200.00 at Ennis last weekend. I think that was for both of us.

Thanks for the info, Art and Ed; I am specifically interested in this "insurance surcharge" that is a part of the entry fee and I have heard is something that NHRA tags onto the Sportsman racers' entry fees to pay for the PRO's insurance... I heard it was originally $40.00, but at some point (recently, I think) raised to $50.00.

To verify all of that information is what I am trying to learn, here. If it's true, that would surely disprove the NHRA's contention that "entry fees have not been raised in over ten years," something I have a lot of trouble believing.

Does anybody remember when that insurance business got tacked onto your entry fee?

Any information will be appreciated!

Question Re: Insurance surcharge for Stockers???

I don't quite understand. I was led to believe that NHRA is self-insured. At least it used to be. Jim

Jim,

The insurance I refer to is a $40.00 surcharge that's a part of the entry fee to a national event that covers insurance costs for racers running the Professional categories, and it's been a part of the entry fee for a long time.

That's the $40 I'm referring to.

I don't race a class car, so I only have second-hand information from a friend of mine who DOES run a class car, but he says that the $40 in question is part and parcel of every entry fee he pays at national events.

Is he in error?.

Thanks for any information.

Bill

Bill
They added the 40.00 on in the mid 80's if I remember correct.
