Default how much time lost?

we went racing last week and the car slow down,we find that the gear on the distributor was broke, so we put a new one on. I was just wanting to know how much is wood slow the car down? thank's

I would think if the distributor gear was broken it would slow the car down to zero.

Yes, It prevents the engine from running without an oil pump!

Bill, it did break right at the 3.30, but the car started out running 6.90's at the start of the day, and slowed up from there. but she runs 6.60's. Bill do you think over time the gear was going bad? thank's

I had a distributor gear shear the roll pin that holds it in place not too long ago. Right on the 1-2 shift. The car just nosed over and lost a ton of power. It didn't quit though since the gear spun on the distributor shaft a little but held at that point. The car would run but barely. I figured out what happened by putting a timing light on it and the timing had shifted from its usual 40+ degrees to around zero.

So if you did something similar, where the gear rotated on the shaft without free-wheeling, then it might have taken some timing out which would have slowed it down before it gave up entirely.

hey Bill, the car backed fire out the exh and quit running, we put the distributor and find a lot of pin sherd off a 2 missing. checked out cam gear looked ok and put it back together start up and sounds good,and yea I change oil and going to start it up today and change again.
