Maybe they did not chip in any cash to get the rule passed.

I just got a response back from NHRA Tech on a email I sent a couple of weeks ago. As of this time a GM locking dipstick will be OK.

Question on the locking dipsticks...is the NHRA mandating a locking dipstick now? And if so, where are you finding this rule....I have looked at the '10 updates and all through the '09 book and find nothing mentioning AT dipsticks.
Thanks.

The rule change was in the National Dragster in late Oct or early Nov along with changes in the parachute mounting.
Since NHRA decided they would not send us 2010 Rule Books this year you will need to read it on line. If you go to the web page under Competition and then to Approved Devices the approved list is on page 83 there but that same list is also at the beginning of this thread. Only changes for 2010 for SG and SC is the locking dipstick and parachute mount rule. I did not go all the way through the on line book but I am sure it is there. I did see it earlier on the NHRA web page but I could not find it tonight. Maybe the page expired or they removed it. I wonder if the Tech Group even knows about the changes the way they all communicate. |

Is the locking dipstick rule for every class?

It appears so for any of the super classes and fast brackets. I just found it in the issue of National Dragster...and it says all cars 10.99 and quicker...I still have not found it in the rule book or rule updates for 2010. FYI - ATI has a locking cap for 10.95...It is not a dipstick to check fluid with, just a locking cap. Cheap fix, fill the trans, remove the stick and use the locking cap. It appears to be the same lock as on the dipticks they sell.

If they cant find it in the book, have the parts guy walk to the parts bin with you. I believe trans dipsticks are in group "4.020". If they keep their inventory by factory catalog numbers, and the dealer is large, they will have all of them in the exact same place in the warehouse. |

From another forum, the GM part number is 15687192. It's supposed to be longer than a standard powerglide dipstick, so you can just cut it to match your existing one.
