Default Green light flashes

ESPN2 had a great slow motion shot of Gary Emmons going into a wheelstand as they explained what bracket racing is from the Bristol event yesterday. Did anybody notice that the green light on the tree is actually flashing. I never knew that! You learn something all the time.

U/SA I wish I could do a wheelstand.

I believe you can do the same thing with a hand held digital tachometer when you shoot it at a fluorescent light. I could be mearureing the hertz.

LED's opperate on DC voltage. ...if they were visably flashing on the ultra slo mo. ,it's possibly from the rectifier bridge being used in the power supply. .....Another possibility ,altho I doubt NHRA would be this sophisthicated is they are using pulse width modulation to dim the lamps......That would eliminate the need for those hi tech flood lamps the use on the tree at night !!.................Yes, I was an electronics geek in a past life. .....Tom

Tom,
That would be a cheapie power supply not to have an R/C filter or correctly sized one for smoothing the output. It also depends if you are rectifying single phase input or triple phase input. Electronics geek many years ago too. Brings back my days of building Heathkit TVs and radios. It doesn't matter. I cannot cut a light.

Only the Green lights at NHRA national events have the flicker, They are an off the shelf item built by the same company that builds the Ambers as sold by Jeg's and other suppliers. You are right the use just a half wave rectifier to fire the LEDs. The Amber's and Red,s are built by us at Compulink and include a full bridge rectifier in our DC power supply built inside each bulb

SOOOOO, Jeff,

What happens at Divisional tracks! Don't they have their own tree and what kinda bulbs do they use????

I don't think that a big percentage of racers realize that you bring in a different tree for the Nationals.

Most if not all Division tracks have our (compulink) LED's. if not each DD has a complete set of amber's with them.
