Default MASGA Race #3 & 4 Re-cap

First time winner Henry Claims Victory at “The Grove”

Reading, Pa – Maple Grove Raceway hosted race #3 & #4 for the Mid Atlantic Super Gas Association (MASGA) on July 10th& 11th. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans on Saturday and washed out Race #3. Sunday was a whole different story with nice sunny skies and temperatures in the low 90’s. Thirty-Three cars made attempts at the R&J Control #1 Qualifier award and in the end it was Tom Rakowski and his 1970 Nova claimed the award with his perfect 9.900. Following Rakowski was Larry Edwards, Iggie Boicesco, Vicki Beam and Don Knoblick. As eliminations got underway it would be a new face standing in the winners circle at days end as Bob Henry from Pequannock, NJ would be the last man standing with his 1963 Chop-Top Corvette. Henry started his march to the top with victories over Rob Bower, Ben Saia and Tom Goldman. In the Semi’s Henry lined up against George Donhauser’s 1979 Arrow. At the Green Henry found himself behind as Donhauser cut down the tree with a .013 to .034 advantage but Donhauser could not run the number and ran out with a 9.854 to Henry’s winning 9.932. On the other side of the ladder was Rich Price and his 1996 “On the Move” Beretta. Price started his day off with victories over Kelli Barbato, Larry Paden Sr and Larry Edwards. Price’s semi-final opponent would be Lance Kreiger and his 2004 Chop-Top Corvette. Price took the early lead at the start (.017 to .030) and held onto a close win 9.925 to 9.936 sending him into his 1st MASGA final. So the finals would guarantee a 1st time winner as Henry and Price both had never won a MASGA Race. At the start Henry was on his game and cut a stout .009 light to Price’s .053 and with that starting line advantage Henry paced himself all the way down the track to a 9.950 to 9.957 victory. Semi-Finalist Kreiger claimed the “Rockaway Racing” Best Package award with his 5 thousandth package in the 1st round win over Mike Lauria. MASGA’s next race will be in 3 short weeks as they visit the newly paved Numidia Dragway in Numidia, Pa.
