Default 1960's Ford Indy V-8

http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...comment-771490

Anybody know much about these engines? As you can see on the blog I have a pretty cool document from an SAE presentation on this. I'm wondering how long these engines were produced, how many made and how much when new. An interesting piece of automotive history for sure.
Of course maybe somebody like Alex Denysenko will want one for SS/GT in a '63 Cobra

The DOHC Ford Indy engine was an offshoot of the stock block Ford Indy engines of 1962 . More power was needed , so an overhead cam version was developed . A J Foyt took over the production of the DOHC Indy engine in about 1967 . The insignia on the cam covers went from FORD to FOYT .
Jim Busby had a twin engine dragster in the late 60s that used these engines . Sounded like nothing else on earth .

Ford also swapped the heads from side to side so the intake ports were on topside and exhaust ports on bottom side and Foyt ran them in sprint car some.. There was also one in a 67 Mustang that Autolite ran Bonneville with it was on cover of Hot Rod Mag.

Anyone wanting to see those headers and the car itself , go to the web site www. twotogo.homestead.com . Lots of info on most of the twin engine rails .

A great photo from above showing not only the headers but also the complexity of the engines is on the twotogo web site under In-line 2 and also under Inline 1966 to present .

I believe this engine was tried for a short time in F1 in the 1960s

I believe this is a single cam version of the Ford Indy engine.
