Yeah, except for the major financial baggage that comes with it.

I believe the state of Illinois put in some BIG $$$ that must be paid back. That would be a tough nut to crack ! And as the article states..the track hasn't made a profit since Dover bought it in 1999 ! Last edited by John Kelley; 10-18-2010 at 11:36 AM. |

Is it just me, or does it seem that the track had the problems with NASCAR, and not Drag Racing??? What a shame.....

Supposedly, they lost money on NASCAR, and made money on NHRA. Without seeing the books, who knows?
In any event, considering the $6 MILLION yearly tax bill, they'd be lucky if they could get someone to take the place if they were offering the track for free, and they'd pay the first year's tax bill. Saying "the future is cloudy" for that place might qualify as the understatement of the decade.

I believe there is also some issue with multiple landowners or leased land.

It's a shame, really. A facility that is that damn nice sitting there wasting away. I live near Springfield, IL - we are running out of options around here. Joliet is close to 3 hours north, Indianapolis is 3.5hrs, Morroco, IN is 3 hrs, Byron, IL is close to 4 hours....This sucks.

Yeah, but it is only 1/8th mile. Charleston is fairly close too, but also only 1/8th mile. I'm only hlf way there and I have to lift...

Hhhhmmmmm,,,,,Let me see here,,Memphis + Dover = Gone. Gateway + Dover = Gone. There seems to be a common denominator here,,,whats wrong, can't these guys manage a race track or do they always bite off more than they can chew. How many other tracks do they hold hostage? I'm not liking this, and I don't even live in that part of the country.
