Default 2011 Rule Book Amendments

Can be found here: http://www.nhra.com/UserFiles/file/2...Amendments.pdf

Or, you can go to the main NHRA page and hunt for the tiny box that reads "Racer Updates" among all the distracting clutter, and click on the "Racer Updates" button. Why this wouldn't be on the main "COMPETITION" tab is beyond me (more logic).

Biggest change I can see is that starting Jan. 1, 2012 oil-retention devices (e.g. diapers or belly pans) will be required on all S/St entries, and beginning June 1, 2011 all roll-cage padding in S/G needs to meet SFI spec 45.1 where the driver's helmet could hit the roll cage (also for cars running 9.99 or quicker).

Oh, and for you guys with secondary braking systems, they're now going to be permitted as long as both are connected together and activate all braking systems on the car at once (i.e. you can't use the hand brake to only control the front brakes).

As a side note, did anybody know that the maximum burnout time is 5 seconds? That's a pretty long burnout, but I honestly didn't know there was ANY time limit...

They still don't get the fact that on a dragster, 2 independant systems with 2 m/c's,and 2 sets of calipers is a safety plus....

I am not going to remove the handle on my hand brake actuated set of brakes and I am also not going to connect both sets of calipers to work off one MC. NHRA Tech is completely wrong on this one and it's hard to believe they don't see the logic or safety factor in having two independent sets......It's my car and my life.....I will either race it as it is or stay home....

Ok we all know that NHRA says NO ! to the independant brake system... but I would like to hear their reason........maybe Rock could help here.

No I don't have a second system, but I think it could be wise....

I think you guys are reading these rules wrong. The applicable sentence is

Note the use of "both master cylinders and all calipers". That means systems with dual MCs and multiple calipers are fine. You just have to activate both with both the foot and hand brake. Seems OK to me??

Chris...that would give you twice the brakes...the idea is to have 2 systems in case one fails...twice the brakes improves the chances of locking up if hit too hard...all of us who have this set-up would just like an explanation from NHRA as to why this such a problem. I feel they are making my car less safe!!

Talking Re: 2011 Rule Book Amendments

In order to move the classes along so Alcohol may have its alloted time added to offset oil cleanup, NHRA has decided to enforce it 5 second burnout policy, any person doing a burnout for more than 5 seconds will be forced to install a secondary timer to control this issue.
These NHRA approved devices can be purchased at our ....................................
